Police Request Assistance Investigating Football Match Incident

Officers investigating an incident at a football match in Salisbury are appealing for information from witnesses.
At approximately 2.45 pm on Saturday, September 5, a football match was being played between George & Dragon FC and FC Stunde at Bishopdown Green when a member of the public started to shout racial abuse at the players.
Following enquiries by officers, a man in his 60s from Basingstoke has been arrested on suspicion of racially/religiously aggravated intentional harassment in connection with the incident and has been interviewed.
He has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
PC Jim Brown said: “We understand that there were a number of witnesses to the incident and we need to speak to them as part of our enquiries. If you can help, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Behaviour of this nature is completely unacceptable and will simply not be tolerated.”
