Laverstock & Ford dropped their first points of the season with an entertaining draw home to Andover Town in a result that certainly felt like a defeat.
Starting with intent, Russ Jones put the home side ahead nutmegging former Bulldog George Baxter in the visitor’s goal. Lavvy were a constant threat going forward, Rawkins going close twice along with Sykes & more chances fell for Jones but they couldn’t add to the opener. Town did have a great chance just on half time, a quick break led to Roberts making a top save to deny Bertie.
The 2nd half saw much of the same, Baxter somehow denied Rawkins with a last-ditch challenge and then Jackson ran through and smashed his effort off the underside of the bar, Jones was unable to tuck in the rebound. Andover were still in the game and looked a threat when they broke away. Roberts and his backline had to be at their disciplined best to keep them at bay. Finally, on 80 the 2nd goal eventually came, Jones was played through and tucked home for his 10th of the season to send the ‘Dell boys’ into delirium. It looked as though they had the game won but as we know in football, nothing is ever certain. Town got a goal back on 86 through Emmans. who found time in the box to place his effort in off the post to set up a nervy finish. With time now deep into injury time, Laverstock tried to play out time but there was time left for one last break, another sweeping move down the left flank led to the ball deflecting into the path of Emman who rifled home to give his side a share of the spoils.
