Jeremy Nettle is to stand down as leader of Salisbury City council following a vote of no confidence.
There has been a long-standing rift in the local conservative party over issues including People Friendly Salisbury.
Councillor Nettle, who has served as the leader since January 2019, will remain as a city councillor serving Fisherton and Bemerton Village.
The news comes just a month after Cllr. Nettle had rejected claims of a split in the council. There have been public disagreements of the project to pedestrianise parts of Salisbury City Center as well as plans surrounding Christmas celebrations and activities in the City.
Cllr Nettle will continue in the leadership role until next month.
