Plea to Community to Shop Local in Salisbury

With the second national lockdown looming, Salisbury BID is urging people to make the effort to use local businesses in the city centre before they’re forced to temporarily close again.

From 0:01 am on Thursday 5th November, non-essential retailers and hospitality businesses will be forced to close as part of the national effort to control the virus.

However, non-essential retail can remain open for delivery to customers and click & collect.

Hospitality venues like restaurants, bars and pubs must close, but can still provide takeaway and delivery services. The takeaway of alcohol will not be allowed. Further guidance for businesses can be found here.

Susi Mason, Director of Salisbury BID and owner of Casa Fina, said: “We’re devastated that this is happening at what’s the busiest time of the year for retailers in particular. But we understand the Government’s decision is necessary in order to control the spread of the virus and save lives.

“Between now and Thursday, many independent retailers, hairdressers and salons are staying open later, so please do everything you can to support them before they’re forced to close.

“Shops are doing their best to adapt by offering click & collect or delivery service in order to reach their customers. The support we had from customers throughout the last lockdown was overwhelming, and we’re urging everyone to continue to support and shop with our local retailers wherever possible.

“Nobody wants to see Salisbury full of empty shops but to avoid this happening we need the community of Salisbury to shop locally and support our businesses.

“On behalf of businesses in the city centre, in particular our independents, thank you, Salisbury, for supporting us!”

Salisbury BID will be publishing a list of shops and takeaways who are still trading in lockdown to help people continue to support these local businesses.

Another great way to support local businesses in Salisbury city centre is to give a Salisbury Gift Card. It can be spent in a choice of over 130 businesses, so makes the perfect gift for everyone.
