Wiltshire Citizen’s Advice Continue To Advise Remotely

Wiltshire Citizen’s Advice is reminding people that their services are still operating despite the English National Lockdown.

Wiltshire Citizens Advice offers free, confidential, impartial advice online, over the phone and via email

Face to face drop-in services remains closed due to the lockdown. However, they continue to provide advisory services over the phone and by email.

Wiltshire Citizen’s Advice was able to help more than 18,000 people during 2020 despite restrictions and received more than 10,000 phone calls from local people seeking advice with thousands more contacting the service via email.

The coronavirus pandemic has impacted on people in many different ways – some people are shielding, most of us are spending more time at home and many have seen their income reduced. Every day advisers speak to people whose lives have been turned upside down by the pandemic.

They have set up a designated team to help people with claiming benefits, such as Universal credit, and to sort out their debts and manage their bills.

Late January through to February is usually the services busiest time for people seeking advice, especially for those struggling to pay their bills. With the drop-in services currently closed, they are concerned that we may not be reaching everyone who needs them.

In reaction to this, Wiltshire Citizen’s Advice has set up a freephone number for their adviceline service. It’s free to call from mobiles and landlines – 0800 144 8848.

A spokesperson for the service said:

We know that previously the cost of calling us was a barrier for some people accessing advice from us over the phone. By removing this barrier, along with setting up our new dedicated resources we hope that more people will be able to reach us. However, with our offices closed to the public we haven’t been able to get the message out there to as many people as we’d like, so we’re asking for your help.

They can also offer support such as help with filling forms, writing letters or negotiating with third parties.

Call for free (new freephone number): 0800 144 8848

Advisers are available from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

Textphone (if you can’t hear or speak on the phone): 18001 then 0800 144 8884
