Community Lottery Launched by Salisbury City Council

Salisbury City Council has announced that the much anticipated Salisbury City Community Lottery was launched (Monday 11 January 2021) at a virtual Good Causes event that was well attended.

Salisbury’s charities, groups and community interest companies can sign up to the Community Lottery now at support@salisburycommunitylottery.co.uk which will help to raise much-needed funds for their organisation. 60p from every £1 ticket will go to the registered good causes that work in the area. Another 20% goes to the prize fund, and the rest is for running costs and VAT.

Homelessness, loneliness, isolation and poverty alleviation charity ENCIRCLES was one of the first charities to apply to the Community Lottery. Molly Fisher who is the Trustee for the charity said:

“ENCIRCLES is very excited to be part of the Salisbury Community Lottery, which will provide a unique income stream for small charities. During these difficult times, such income becomes even more important for charities to meet their objectives and so we encourage other Salisbury Charities to join us in making the lottery a great success. All you have to do is develop your own lottery page to promote your charity and then meet the requirement of at least 20 weekly ticket sales.”

The website is now available – www.SalisburyCommunityLottery.co.uk. Tickets will go on sale on Tuesday 16 February 2021.

Players of the lottery can win a £25,000 jackpot, plus smaller prizes. The first draw of the Salisbury City Community Lottery is Saturday 27 March 2021 and will then take place every week. Players have a 50 to one chance of winning one of the prizes.

The Mayor of the Council, Cllr John Walsh said:

“The Community Lottery is an exciting initiative that is really going to benefit local charities, not-for-profit organisations and the Salisbury community. I encourage good causes to sign up to receive the valuable support that the Community Lottery offers.”
