All across Salisbury and South Wiltshire, people are polishing their walking boots, checking their waterproofs and planning their routes for this year’s Walk for Wards. There’s still time for you to sign and up and show your support for your local hospital this Sunday, 4th July.
Although Stars Appeal supporters can’t get together at Wilton House this year, Walk for Wards is still a very important part of the Stars Appeal’s annual activities. It makes it a huge contribution to the £1million the Stars Appeal aims to raise each year to enhance care for patients across all Wards and Departments at Salisbury District Hospital and support the NHS staff who care for them. It’s also an event that almost everyone can take part in, including toddlers in pushchairs and people in wheelchairs.
There’s no minimum distance to walk, and your walk doesn’t even need to be away from home. So whether you walk up and down the stairs to your flat, take a turn round the garden or hike miles across the local countryside, you can join Stars Appeal supporters raising funds to thank our local hospital and its hardworking staff.
Members of the Family Law team at Trethowans Solicitors in Salisbury are walking 10km from Pitton to Salisbury Cathedral.
Meghann and Ashton Blake and their children Casey-Joe, Cameron and Grace are walking to thank the staff in NICU who looked after Grace and staff in the Benson Suite who looked after baby Aria.
Stars Appeal trekkers are walking on a route that takes them past the hospital as they train for next year’s fundraising trek to Petra. Some are fundraising to thank the hospital for care they’ve received themselves, including on the Pembroke Unit, or for care received by loved ones, including on the Cardiac Suite. And some are walking to support the wards or departments where they work, including the Eye Clinic, Maternity department and A&E.
All you have to do to take part is sign up at www.starsappeal.org
