Saracens back-row Billy Vunipola, Bath centre Ollie Lawrence and Sale Sharks prop Bevan Rodd have rejoined England’s 40-man training squad which assembled at Pennyhill Park on Sunday.

Vunipola and Lawrence are both in rehabilitation from respective knee injuries, with the experienced number eight undergoing surgery earlier this year.

Two players omitted

Meanwhile, Rodd has also been added to the group at the Honda England Rugby Performance Centre, while Gloucester front-row Val Rapoava-Ruskin and Harlequins flyer Cadan Murley have been dropped from the squad.

England boss Steve Borthwick is continuing preparations for the upcoming Rugby World Cup in France, which starts in September.

The Red Rose have four warm-up games scheduled to take place next month. The first two of those matches will be against Wales on a home and away basis, on August 5 and 12 respectively.

After that they head to Dublin to take on the Six Nations champions Ireland at the Aviva Stadium on August 19 before they face Fiji at Twickenham the following week (August 26).

Borthwick is set to announce his final World Cup squad on August 7, and England will launch their campaign at the global showpiece against Pool D rivals Argentina in Marseille on September 9.
