Saracens have completed the signing of Argentina back-row Juan Martin Gonzalez in an impressive new arrival ahead of the 2023/24 Premiership season.

Gonzalez, who has won 22 caps for Los Pumas thus far, has caught the eye in recent seasons with his energetic and athletic showings for club and country.

The 22-year-old star is set to add plenty of quality to the club’s back-row in the upcoming campaigns, with his versatility also a plus point in his game.

Starred for London Irish

Gonzalez, who stands at 6’3″ and weighs 105kg, has been with London Irish since 2021 but will make the move to Saracens after the Rugby World Cup.

Formerly of Jaguares, Gonzalez has scored six tries for his country, including his debut against Romania, and has starred for the Pumas in their Rugby Championship campaign so far, including their victory over Australia in Sydney, with the team currently preparing to face the Springboks this weekend.

He will be reunited with fellow countryman Lucio Cinti, who is also making the move to StoneX Stadium, and they will both be looking to follow in the footsteps of other Argentinians who have succeeded at Sarries, such as Juan Figallo and Marcelo Bosch.

Gonzalez is happy to be heading to North London and revealed he will be giving his all to the Premiership club as they challenge for more honours.

“I am very excited to meet the players and the fans,” he said.

“I will give everything to make sure the team goes well.”

Exciting new arrival

Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall added that he is thrilled to welcome the back-rower to StoneX Stadium and believes he has a bright future.

“Juan is a player who we are very excited about,” he said.

“He has shown his ability in the Premiership over the past couple of seasons, and we believe he has his best rugby ahead of him.”
