Former England scrum-half Danny Care has signed a new contract to stay at Harlequins for next season.

The 37-year-old, who retired from international rugby after the Six Nations, extends his career at The Stoop into a 19th season.

Care has made 374 first-team appearances for Quins, a club record, and has scored more than 100 tries.

“This is my home, I love everything about it, the rugby we play, our amazing fans and the memories we have made,” he told the club website., external

“It was an easy decision to sign the contract, we have a great group of lads who I love playing with, and we’re building something very special.”

In the twilight of his career, Care decided against a lucrative move abroad, external to stay at Quins, who he first joined in 2006.

It began a storied relationship with the club that included winning the Premiership in 2012 and 2021 and the European Challenge Cup in 2011.

He made his international debut in 2008, was part of the Grand Slam winning side of 2016, and went on to become just the sixth men’s player to play more than 100 games for England, retiring with 101 caps in March.

Director of rugby Billy Millard, who had backed Care to play on for another season, added: “Danny has been an incredible servant to our club and a true Harlequin, leading from the front with his exceptional professionalism, hard work, and determination to succeed.

“We love having Danny in our squad, he’s a great character and his infectious energy, alongside his experience, means he’s a hugely popular and important member of our Quins DNA.”

After losing to Toulouse in the European Champions Cup semi-final on Sunday, Care will hope to help Quins to another Premiership semi-final.

They lie fifth with two games remaining, level on points with Bristol in fourth, and travel to Exeter on Saturday before hosting Bristol in the final round.
